The current golf course was build in 1961 when The Onewhero Golf Club in Pukekawa purchasing there 103 acres where it is situated today. Actually club formed in 1929 at Onewhero and golfers played there until 1933. It then changed its location to a new course also at Onewhero. In 1947 the club was moved again, southward of Onewhero, to Pukekawa. Club was there for two years and in 1949 another new course was built, also in Pukekawa. The last move was in 1961 when it took its last location, at the crossing of Main & Churchill Roads.
Over the years thousands of trees have been planted and flourished on the rich volcanic soil.
The club made redeveloping in the back nine holes Five years ago at 11 February 2006. And now that part of course provide three water holes, more hazards, bunkers and out of bounds. The membership of club is very friendly and social.
Club days are every Tuesday (Ladies), Wednesday (Men) and Saturday (Men and Ladies). The Mens course is 5503 metres long with a course rating of 69.6, slope 115 and is a Par 72. The Ladies course is 5205 metres long with a course rating of 70.3, slope 120 and is a Par 73.
Most holes are tree lined, so accurate driving is a must. Although the new holes (12,13,14 & 15) are completely different to the rest of the course, seems like open fairways more contoured greens with more bunkers. Generally is't quite nice golf course.
There are also good training facilities: Putting green, Practice nets, Practice hole.
The Pro shop is open 7 days for the sale of golf gear. The bar offers hot and cold drinks and snack food.
